MOZART | GREAT MASS IN C 5 May 2024 16:00

After the Requiem at the start of the season, the Namur Chamber Choir offers you another jewel of Mozart’s sacred music: the Mass in C minor; this time with our friends Les Ambassadeurs ~ La Grande écurie by Alexis Kossenko.

Because his fiancée Konstanze was ill, Mozart decided, in 1782, to compose what would remain an exception in his religious production: a votive work. “I made this promise in my heart,” he confided to his father. Thus is born the Grande Messe in C which, although left unfinished, demonstrates a rare power of expression: there are Italian arias and duets, memories of Bach or Handel in striking choral sequences, but, above all, , the dramatic and human depth, the anguish and the light which announce the Requiem or The Magic Flute. In the first part, Alexis Kossenko swaps the baton for the flute and takes the orchestra into a sparkling and lyrical dialogue: the Concerto in D major is a real little opera for the instruments!
